About Henry L. Knight

Henry L. Knight was born in Daphne, Alabama in the early 1930’s and was the youngest of 13 children. He left Alabama in 1953 and followed his older sister to Los Angeles, California where he enrolled in Los Angeles Trade Technical College and received his nursing certification from Trade Tech. Henry received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Theology from Life Pacific Bible College in 1975 and later received in Master of Arts degree from Azusa Pacific University in 1984.

Henry served in the United States Army for five years and began his 33-year career with the Los Angeles County General Hospital where he worked as a mental health counselor to support in-patient adolescent and adult residents who were suffering from mental health issues.

Henry always had a passion for the youth because he knew that this group had to one day carry the torch of becoming leaders of our future, so he began to volunteer that the Los Angeles County Teen Posts in Compton, CA up to three times weekly to mentor young boys and girls.

In 1969 through the late 90’s Henry and his family join the West Angeles Church, where he took on many leadership roles.  Henry was the first principal of the West Angeles Christian Academy.  Henry supported the West Angeles ministry in many capacities by teaching YPWW, writing the first curriculum for the West Angeles Bible College, and started its first counseling center, which provided service to many members and non-members for more than 25 years.

In September 1989, Henry was given a charge by God to start his own ministry, which lead him back to the under-served community.  The Greater True Light Tabernacle (GTLT) Church was formed, which enabled this ministry to no only serve individuals with spiritual food but also to serve individuals within the surrounding community with physiological essentials. Over 3,000 families were blessed and served because of this ministry, which also enabled this organization to develop many partnerships within the community (community political leaders, Los Angeles Mission, World Mission, and Fresh Produce Distribution Centers in Downtown Los Angeles).

Henry served in the GTLT ministry for over 30 years until his death on October 14, 2010.  Henry was married to the love of his life, Carrie M. Agee (Knight) for 54 years.  Carrie was Henry committed and valiant partner throughout their journey.  They were the proud parents of two daughters, Darlene and Karen as well as two beautiful granddaughters.
